A Local Turkey on Every Table

Healthy Living’s Annual Pre-Order Turkey Sale Starts today. To Encourage Guests To Buy Their Turkeys Locally, A Percentage of Each Turkey Sale Will Be Donated to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf

South Burlington, Vermont (October 7, 2015) – Healthy Living Market and Café’s annual Thanksgiving turkey pre-order program starts today. The leading Vermont grocery store has been offering the freshest local and fair-priced turkeys for generations and this year will be no different. Kicking off today and running through November 20th, guests can order local, free-range and hormone-free turkeys over the phone, in-store or online at http://www.local.healthy-living-staging/thanksgiving-turkeys-vermont/. Healthy Living also wants to see one of these locally and humanely-raised turkeys on every table this year by once again partnering with the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf to donate a percentage of turkey’s sold to the local Burlington food shelf.

In addition to buying a turkey, guests can also support the Chittenden Emergency Food shelf in a number of ways at Healthy Living during the holidays. All year long, customers can donate to the organization when they check out at the register. Also on the first day of Turkey pick-up, Tuesday November 24th, those customers that are grabbing their turkeys and are in the giving spirit, can pick up (or bring)  non-perishable items to donate to Healthy Living’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. All donations will go directly to families in need this holiday season through the local food shelf.

“Once upon a time we sold 25 local turkeys off the back of a truck outside our tiny store in South Burlington, VT. Today we are proud to offer birds of the same quality to our community at a great price,” said Eli Lesser-Goldsmith. “We source from five local, family-owned and operated farms in our region – trusted growers who we’ve known for almost 30 years. These talented and hardworking farmers raise their birds using the most responsible practices and process them just days before the holiday so that your Thanksgiving turkey is as fresh as possible- never frozen and always fantastic.”

“The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf is so grateful for the support of Healthy Living,” said Sophia Morton, CEFS Communications and Development Director. “We are seeing more people than ever before needing food assistance. And with the holiday season just around the corner, we anticipate that more families will be needing our services. Community events like this one at Healthy Living help us to keep pace with the growing demand.”

This year, Healthy Living will be selling turkeys at $3.19/lb from local Vermont farms including Adams Turkey Farm, Misty Knoll and StoneWood. Organic birds from VT’s own Tangletown Farm will also be available for $5.99/lb. This Thanksgiving also marks the 26th anniversary of the grocer and Vermont’s Adam’s Turkey Farm working together to provide the highest quality turkeys during Thanksgiving. Knowing who grows the food they sell is a high priority for Healthy Living. For more information and to pre-order your turkey today, click here.
