1.) What’s your business’ origin story? How did it all start?
EMT began while native Vermonter Ashley Reynolds was researching CBD after the birth of her second child. Her postpartum anxiety was becoming unmanageable and rather than turn to pharmaceuticals Ashley explored CBD. She found relief almost immediately. “The effects for me were life changing.” So much so, that she decided to start her own company. “I know many people, especially women and mothers, that face the same high level of life’s stress and demands. It can be devastatingly overwhelming as a mother. “CBD helps me regain control. It has also done wonders for my ability to fall asleep and stay asleep.” Says Ashley of her CBD use.
2.) What is the most rewarding part of owning your own business?
The most rewarding part is That we get to operate at the intersection of well being, economic development, social justice, and environmental sustainability. There’s never been an industry like ours and we have the ability to change the landscape from the ground up. There are no standards at this point. So it’s up to us to shape them!
3.) What are some of the challenges?
Similarly to the adaptogenic qualities of cannabis, women too have to be very adaptive. We wear many hats throughout the day. The pressures of motherhood and owning a business can almost cause you to give up some days. Time management, listening to good ideas, and being open to change are some of my main challenges. You can sometimes be your own worst enemy if you can’t get outside yourself sometimes.
4.) Name one company or business owner that you really admire and why.
It’s hard to pick just one. I would have to say that I admire all the Vermont Women owned businesses that Elmore Mountain Therapeutics partnerships with. With two edible companies and a topical formulator like ours, I’m constantly learning and being mentored by them. They’ve taught me so much about business, about being a women in business, and that we can accomplish so much more when we work together. They have inspired me by their bravery to become instant advocates for the cannabis industry. When you have a well established, successful business, it can be a giant leap of faith to enter into the cannabis industry. These women are helping shape the new culture around the cannabis industry and for that I am forever grateful!
5.) What advice do you have for other women out there that might be thinking of starting their own endeavor?
Don’t wait! Now’s the time! You are so much more capable than you give yourself credit for!
“When women lead, we invite greatness.” -Ashley Reynolds
