1911 Cider
If you haven’t noticed, there is a new hard cider in town and it is quite delicious! 1911 hard ciders are hand crafted in Lafayette, New York, just outside of Syracuse. The 1911 brand is based on the 100 year old traditions of quality and innovation in apple farming that began when George Skiff and Andrew Beak founded Beak & Skiff Apple orchards in 1911. Every apple that is used to make the 1911 hard ciders and spirits are grown right there at the family orchard! I think that’s pretty neat!
I’m not a huge hard cider fan because I find most of them to be too sweet for my taste; I usually stick to Strongbow or Magner’s, which are on the drier side. However, I am always open to trying and finding new treasures in the beer aisle, so I decided I was going to give the 1911 original a try and share what I thought. Let me tell you, I do not regret it. I was thoroughly impressed! For me this cider is the perfect balance between dry and sweet. There are wonderful, light, crisp, and pleasantly tart apple flavors that are not overwhelming like some ciders can be. The 1911 website describes this as a sparkling cider, but I’m not sure I would describe it that way because it is only slightly effervescent; only tiny, happy, bubbles. With its great flavor and refreshing crispness, this cider has easily earned its place as a staple in my refrigerator! Currently, here at Healthy Living, we carry the 1911 Original Cider in 6 packs and the 1911 Founder’s Reserve Rose Cider in bombers.1911 also offers flavors such as raspberry and blueberry, and I cannot wait to try them! I highly recommend grabbing a 6 pack of this liquid happiness the next time you stop in to HL, then stop into Divine Wines and let me know what you think!
