Tips for Holiday Health & Wellness
Let’s be real, the holidays can be draining for even the most mindful among us, kicking it off with Thanksgiving and rolling into the new year. We run around, doing all the things that we do and likely sleeping a little less. And, most of us break from our eating norm staring NOW, and there is no reason to apologize for this! A good celebration invites us to eat and drink a little more and perhaps differently, than we normally would. This is the time of year to enjoy food, be merry and make memories. So friends, I have a few suggestions to keep you energized, radiant, and balanced as you move through your wave of festive celebrations this season.
Start with a plan to recharge your body, mind, heart and soul with a few simple practices that can be easily added to your daily routine. Pick one or two that appeal to you most and add them right to your calendar when you know you are likely to need them most
Eat More Greens. Greens are loaded with vitamins and minerals which help you absorb all of the protein and iron your body needs. Bitter greens such as arugula keeps your digestive system happy and strong. Wilted greens are my favorite this time of year.
Miso Broth. Who doesn’t love to curl up with a warm cup of soup when it is chilly outside! Miso is so easy to prepare and has amazing benefits for both your immune system and your tummy. A nice broth of miso, a few cubes of tofu, some spinach and a few scallions make a very nice light lunch before a big meal.
Establish a Simple Supportive Self Care Routine. Lighten up the stress load to keep yourself balanced and grounded. Don’t wait until January to notice that your body, mind, heart and soul have been swept far far from shore and are struggling to find their way back. One routine that keeps me rolling through holiday festivities without losing my “best life” is a consistent breakfast routine. I start my day sitting down with a mug of coffee and a bowl of oatmeal or granola topped with berries or diced apple. I take this time to reflect on the day ahead of me so that I can navigate it more confidently.
Magnesium is the Reset Button. CALM magnesium powder, dandelion tea, and pumpkin seeds are all great sources of magnesium. Do your body a favor and reach for one of these daily, especially after indulging in ways that leave you feeling tired, heavy, or bloated.
Ready, set, recharge.
