A Little Feature on Fantastic Father’s Day Gifts
Father’s Day has always been special to me. I was born on the Father’s Day of 1981 and my dads’ birthday was three days afterwards so he always referred to me as the best gift that he ever got.
My dad grew up in San Francisco during the 1960’s when Haight Ashbury street was booming with flower children, impromptu Grateful Dead shows and earthy, exotic musky scents mixing in with the ocean air. He was a skateboarder and a surfer, riding all day and then roasting Brussels sprouts on the beach at night. He was an apprentice engineer at CBS recording studios for a few years and then spend a few more years as a stage manager for The Avalon Ballroom. These jobs brought him in contact with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Art Garfunkel and more legendary musicians that he would tell me stories about late at night when I would come home from parties in high school.
Despite the stereotypes that are sometimes associated with someone who grew up in this atmosphere, my dad was a pretty clean guy. I remember cans of Barabasol shaving cream in the bathroom cabinet as well as bottles of Old Spice aftershave and containers of Hawaiian Tropic Tanning Oil being around as well. These were the products that he used on a regular basis (tanning in our backyard in small-town Vermont was a pretty funny sight) and they are scents that will always remind me of him. He was the coolest guy of all time and I miss him everyday.
I had not yet embarked on my adventure as the Lead Body Care Buyer here when my dad passed away in 2001, but if life had gone differently I would certainly be pushing along all sorts of awesome men’s care to him now. If you have never delved in the world of natural men’s skincare products, there is no better time to introduce yourself or your dad than the present! Here are some great Father’s Day body care gifts suggestions or rather, things that I would have bought for my own dad this year:
Ursa Major Stellar Shave Cream – Ditch those aerosol cans full of petrochemicals and synthetic fragrance! Ursa Major’s Shave Cream is otherworldly in texture, fragrance and effectiveness. This is a very rich, concentrated cream that uses fir balsam, real sandalwood oil and aloe vera to nourish tough facial skin.
Shea Moisture Utility Soap Bar – I am of the opinion that this is the best smelling men’s bar soap that I have ever come across. The combination of mango butter, cocoa butter, honey and vetiver oil is heavenly and this soap is great for anyone who has eczema or really dry skin.
Juniper Ridge Cedar Campfire Incense – Sometimes dad’s just need to spend some time alone in their office, the garage, the basement or the backyard. Juniper Ridge uses wildcrafted herbs and essential oils to concoct their incense and sitting in a quiet place with it burning can really help to relax weary minds.
The Wonder Seed Sweet Orange Shampoo – This shampoo is great. The star player ingredient in here is hemp oil, which is very nourishing to the hair and scalp. Sweet Orange essential oil is uplifting and cheering to the senses so this is a great shampoo to use in the morning to start the day.
Dr. Bronners’ Peppermint Castille Soap – Who doesn’t love Dr. Bronners’? This all purpose soap is so versatile that you can brush your teeth, wash your clothes and soak your feet in it. This is a great gift for any dad that hikes, bikes or camps on a regular basis. P.S. This has hemp oil in it as well!
John Masters’ 2 in 1 Moisturizer and Aftershave: This face creme has eucalyptus oil and agave in it which help keep your face smooth, blemish free and well hydrated. It also contains beta glucan to help protect against the rough environmental elements that dad’s can weather on a daily basis. Plus since it’s a 2 in 1 product, it takes up less space so there is that bonus as well.
We have all of these wonderful products available on shelves all month long and some of them are even on sale! So if you are looking to get some healthy skincare for your dad, you’ve come to the right place. Happy Father’s Day!
