Day In The Dirt 2013

On April 27th, 16 Healthy Living staff members volunteered in two community gardens for the first Day In The Dirt event, hosted by Vermont Community Garden Network and Friends of Burlington Community Gardens.

One of our teams worked in the Old North End in Burlington building a fence around the Archibald Neighborhood Community Garden. Our other team headed to Colchester to build a “lasagna garden” on the Fanny Allen Campus of Fletcher Allen.

The day was filled with lots of digging, lifting, sunshine and teamwork.

Each team worked from 9am until noon on their projects before enjoying a delicious lunch outside the Intervale Barn provided by The Farmhouse, Nika, Ben & Jerry’s, and Healthy Living.

After the lunch festivities, a few of us went back to the Old North End to finish up the fence and a few finishing touches.

The auger took a break with us to pose for a photo after all it’s hard work throughout the day setting us up for fence post placement. Above is the crew from the City of Burlington and Vermont Community Garden Network.

A huge thank you from all of us at Healthy Living goes out to all the volunteers and folks who set up this amazing event. We look forward to being part of the next one!
