Healthy Living pulls a Firetruck for a Good Cause!

Outright Vermont’s 9th Annual Fire Truck Pull fundraiser took place last Saturday, September 15 at the Church Street Marketplace. Since 1989, Outright VT has worked to provide safety and support for LGBTQQ youth, helped make schools safer, and focused on youth empowerment, leadership, and advocacy.

The Burlington City Fire Department lends Outright a fire truck for teams of community members and local businesses to pull 30 feet through the Church Street Marketplace. Team Healthy Living, made up of 12 staff members from all different departments, was competing with 12 other teams. Chants from Healthy Living cheerleaders, owners Katy and Eli and other HL staff, motivated team HL all the way to the finals where they were up against a team of firefighters named “The Pull Monty”.

Unfortunately the big and brawny firefighters were too much for the lean, mean machines of Healthy Living. HL Community Outreach Coordinator and fire-truck pull participant Trisha Hlastawa was pleased with a second place for HL’s first time in the event; “it was a great way to raise community awareness for Outright and be apart of something fun and rewarding. We’re already looking forward to next year,” she said.
