Importer Spotlight: Massanois Imports
Founded in 2006, Massanois Imports curates an amazing portfolio of wines from around the world. They work with small to mid-sized wineries that produce high-quality wines at attractive prices. Although their portfolio includes French, Spanish, German, and Austrian wineries, we have fallen in love with their collection of Italian wines. Below we will highlight just a few of the fantastic wines we carry from Massanois Imports.
The Sassetti family has been producing wines from Montalcino for over three generations. Livio and his son Lorenzo have dedicated their lives to producing amazing wines that reflect the terroir of their estate and the illustriousness of the Sangiovese grape. They use time-honored methods of hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation, and organic farming to produce wines that are balanced, structured, and always delicious. Most famous for their Brunello, their Montecucco Rosso is also a tremendous wine at a modest price. Both Comprised of 100% Sangiovese Grosso (the local clone of Sangiovese), these are wines that any lover of Italian wine needs to try.
Mauro Molino is another winemaker who has dedicated himself to viticulture and producing wines that capture the sense of place of his homeland. His small, family-owned estate in Piedmont produces great wines from the region’s native grape varieties. His Barbera d’Alba is fruity and supple with bright acidity. The Langhe Nebbiolo he produces is floral (roses and violets) with juicy fruit and well integrated tannins. Finally his Barolo is classically styled with notes of cherry, tar, and roses back by firm, persistent tannins.
The Fongoli estate is comprised of 40 hectares of land in the heart of Umbrian wine country. The family has been making wine in Montefalco for over 80 years, and is still family run by the brother/sister team of Angelo and Simona Fongoli. Their Montefalco Rosso is a blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino, and small amounts of Merlot and Montepulciano. It is full-bodied and intensely flavored with notes of blackberry, cherry, and spice.
