Importer Spotlight: Rare Wine Company
Over the past 25 years Rare Wine Company has established themselves as one of the premier wine importers in the country. Rather than focus on importing wines from a single region or county, they strive to bring in wines from the best of the best within each region. They focus on winemakers who adhere to traditional winemaking practices, with an emphasis on organic or biodynamic farming, native yeast fermentation, and wines that are expressive of the place from which they come. They have been recognized by Food & Wine, Wine Advocate, and James Beard as having one of the finest wine portfolios of any importer. We carry an extensive selection of wines from the Rare Wine Company, and we wanted to highlight a few producers from their portfolio whose wines we are excited to share with our guests.
Bernabeleva
Bernabeleva is a family-owned winery located in the Madrid D.O. of Spain. Their focus is producing elegant, terroir-driven Garnacha from the estate’s vineyards. The 40-80 year old vines are planted in mainly granitic soil at elevations ranging from 700-900 meters. The vineyards are farmed by hand using organic and biodynamic methods. The wine is bright ruby red in the glass with flamboyant aromas of raspberries, violets, and Asian baking spices. High-toned acid and seamless tannins frame the spicy raspberry, mineral, and blood orange flavors, making this a fantastic food wine that would pair wonderfully with a variety of tapas dishes.
Domaine Huët
Domaine Huët makes some of the most compelling, age-worthy Chenin Blanc in the world. Since their founding in 1928, their estate in the Vouvray appellation of the Loire Valley has been producing wines with personality and precision. Always comprised of 100% Chenin Blanc, they make dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and sparkling wines. They were an early adopter of biodynamic farming techniques, and converted completely by 1989. Their wines have a laser-like focus, pronounced minerality, and electric acidity.
Montepeloso
Located in the hilly terrain near the Tuscan coast, Montepeloso makes wines with riveting complexity and great elegance. They grow a variety of indigenous and international grape varieties including Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their wines have an incredible intensity of flavors while managing to stay fresh and vibrant. Their Eneo proprietary red features the unmistakable Italian flavors of dark cherries, licorice, flowers, and tobacco. The wines from this estate are a must try for anyone who loves Italian wine.
These are just a few of the wines we carry from Rare Wine Company. We have an extensive selection of their imported wines, and they are some of the most exciting wines we carry. Let our friendly and knowledgeable staff guide you to an excellent bottle from one of our favorite importers.
