Kombucha (KOM-boo-cha)

One of the most common questions I get in the store concerns Kombucha.  Specifically, what is it? Well, it’s a lot of things, but the simplest way to explain it is that Kombucha is fermented tea. The tea is introduced with a colony of bacteria and yeast called the “scoby” or “mother”.  Kombucha is an all around health elixir.

Kombucha has been consumed in Eastern cultures for over 2,000 years.  It wasn’t introduced to the U.S.  until the 1990’s. Apparently, we’re pretty far behind on what seems to be a health miracle worker. But, what can this effervescent beverage actually do for you? Well, let me break it down for you!

1. Detoxify- Kombucha is riddled with enzymes and bacterial acids that our body uses to detoxify. These enzymes ease the burden your pancreas and liver take from any toxins that have made their way in.  Kombucha is also a great source of a cancer warrior, Glucaric Acid. I’ve had a number of customers come in with the claim that Kombucha helped them in their battle with the big-C.

2. Immunity- Kombucha does wonders for a healthy and fully functioning immune system. It is packed with probiotics and active bacterial enzymes that promote good bacteria and thwart bad bacteria. Kombucha can play a huge part in keeping your energy up!

3. Bones and Joints- Kombucha contains glucosamines. This plays a giant role in healthy joints and also helps prevent arthritis. This cocktail of acids and enzymes also helps preserve cartilage, maintain tissue structure, and lubricate joints.

4. In the GUT- As stated, Kombucha is a great source of probiotics. This is due to the natural fermentation process, which results in a living colony of bacteria and yeast. These organisms aid in digestion and help prevent candida (harmful yeast). Paired together this can result in better moods, and a clearer mind. photo 1 (17)Did you know that you can fill your own containers with Kombucha? Just bring it to Customer Service for a tare weight.
