Oh yes, it’s the heart of summer and you can see it on our shelves. The produce section is bursting with marvelous blueberries, sweet corn, and heirloom tomatoes, while the final harvest of garlic scapes are waiting to be made into batches of pesto. How about hydrating with some growler sizes of kombucha? Or, sip on some Pok Pok Som. Never heard of it? Fascinatingly delicious! PRODUCE

Local Organic Blueberries (Dwight Miller Orchards & Adams Berry Farm)  They’re here! The health boosting, antioxidant berry extraordinaire: the blueberry! And when you can get them locally from an organic farm, we highly recommend gobbling them up by the handful. A delicious summer treat from mother nature.

Local Organic Heirloom Tomatoes (Pete’s Greens) — Here’s what HL’s own Nina Lesser-Goldsmith says about heirlooms: “Heirloom tomatoes are tomatoes grown from “heirloom seeds,” meaning the seeds are saved and passed down season after season. Heirloom tomatoes are never genetically modified and they are open-pollinated. Heirlooms typically have very distinct and intense flavors. They are also sometimes “ugly” (or gorgeously asymmetrical and come in a variety of colors) since they have not been hybridized to be perfectly round and smooth and red. Heirlooms come in all sorts of sizes, shapes, colors, and flavors. They are totally amazing and I spend my summer eating as many as I can!”
