PRODUCE:

Organic Red Bartlett Pears – Red Bartlett pears are basically identical to green Bartletts, they just have a beautiful color ranging from striped, bright red, to dark red.  Ready to eat when they are slightly soft to the touch. Check the neck of the pear (near the stem) for ripeness by pressing softly.

Conventional “Champagne” Mangoes – Also known as “Honey Mangoes” all Champagne mangoes are the Ataulfo mango variety, but not all Ataulfo mangoes are Champagne.  Mangoes are rich in vitamins A, B, and C, as well as dietary fiber.  They are ripe when the skin is bright yellow and slightly wrinkled—once ripe they will keep in the refrigerator for up to a week.  Ataulfo mangoes in general are softer textured and less fibrous than a regular round mango, and if properly ripe, are much sweeter.

Conventional Campari Tomatoes – Regarded as some of the sweetest and most flavorful tomatoes on the (winter) market, Campari’s are known for their excellent acid/sugar balance and great texture. These deep red, hydroponically grown tomatoes are classified as a “cocktail tomato,” because they are slightly bigger than a cherry tomato and rounder than a Roma.

Conventional White Grapefruit – White grapefruits are thin skinned, juicy, and are one of the sweeter types of grapefruit— always great for breakfast! The pink and red varieties of grapefruit that you see most often today are descended from the white grapefruit, and have largely pushed this variety out of the market, though some remember them fondly and have requested that we carry these.

Organic Swiss Chard – From Lady Moon Farms. Swiss Chard has a milder flavor than the pigmented varieties, giving it the nickname “butter chard.” The white stalks are equally edible, lacking in the bitterness common of other varieties.

Conventional Pixie Tangerines – Ojai Pixie tangerines are grown by a co-op of 52 small-scale family farms in the Ojai valley in California. They are super sweet, seedless, easy to peel, and actually are much smaller than a clementine.

And in other news, the first new spring greens of the season for VT are coming in this week! We get started pretty early here.

REFRIGERATED & CHEESE:

This is an exciting week for the cheese shop in Vermont, with a lot of new items for our guests this week.

Excalibur Huntsmen-This is a great cheese. A concoction of two classic cheeses produced in the English countryside. Double Gloucester is a firm, mellow and tangy cheese made only from the milk of Gloucester cows in Southwestern England. The Stilton layer is a blue-veined, strong, smooth and creamy cheese with a distinctive flavor profile. This is a match made in cheese-heaven.

Vivaldi DOP Grated Parm

Vella Dry Jack

Henri Hutin Brie Couronne- The only true lactic French Brie on the market. Slowly ripened from the outside to the center, just as a raw milk Brie would. This is more of traditional Brie, as compared to a stabilized one. Made from hormone-free milk and doesn’t contain any gluten.

Cypress Grove- I met the owner of this company in a seminar she had about cheese making. This cheese was conceived in a dream of hers. Each handcrafted wheel features a distinctive ribbon of edible vegetable ash. Buttermilk and fresh cream, complemented with floral notes, herbaceous overtones, and a clean citrus finish. As it matures, the cream line develops the flavor and intensifies.

Beehive Barely Buzzed, Big John’s Cajun– A fabulous cheese! The owner of this company is really passionate about quality. The barely buzzed is a must-try for everyone. Espresso and Lavender hand-rubbed with subtle notes of butterscotch and caramel with a real creamy texture. Big John’s Cajun is of course a spicy rub, which packs a heated punch as you near the rind.

Kerrygold Cashel Blue- Just in time for St Patrick’s Day! This Irish-farmhouse cheese is amazing.

Mccalls Irish Cheddar- Here’s another line just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. We’ll be doing the whiskey cheddar and the porter cheddar. This is also on sale at both stores this month at $2 off a pound.

Bella Maria Marcona Almonds- A more price-friendly option on Marconas for our guests. We’ll be doing the regular Marcona almonds, and the Piedras de Chocolate, which are Marconas dipped in chocolate.

Babybel minis- Classic babybel’s are in! A favorite with the kiddos.

Rogue Creamery Blue Heaven Blue Cheese Powder- Healthy Living’s own Paul Hoffman famously calls this “shaky cheese”, which he strongly recommends sprinkling on your popcorn. There are many uses for this delicious product.

Vermont Farmstead Lile Bebe- This one of my favorite cheeses from them. Just delicious.

La Bonne Vie- We’ll be doing the goat Brie, Chante Original and Garlic, and the Triple Cream Brie.

Vermont Homestead Gourmet Goat Cheese Spreads- Super tasty spreads in Maple Cranberry and a Garlic Olive. Be on the look out for them to be demoing soon.

Green Mountain Creamery YoYummy 4 packs- We sell these in single serve, and now we have a four-pack!

Forager Cashewgurt- We now have a cashew-milk-based yogurt, dairy free, and organic.

Nancy’s Organic Whole Milk Cultured Cottage Cheese- Loaded with probiotics, this is good old-fashioned creamy cottage cheese. We recommend using it in cottage cheese pancakes!

Rhapsody OG Natto- We now have a Vermont certified organic Natto! Natto, for those who might not know, is fermented soybeans.

Immaculate Baking Gluten-Free Fudge Brownie Cookie Dough- Fudge, Brownie, Cookie Dough and gluten free? What’s not to love.

Odwalla Quenchers and Shakes- New and super tasty; for the quenchers we have: Honey Lemonade, Strawberry Honey Lemonade, Peachy Ginger, and Hotter-Melon. For the almond milk shakes we have: Snickerdoodle and Mocha Latte. They’re all excellent.

Ben and Jerry’s Pint Slice 3 Pack- They’re finally here, folks, in all 4 flavors. In single serves we offer cookie dough.

Ben and Jerry’s Non-Dairy- Cherry Garcia, Coconut Seven Layer Bar and Caramel Almond Brittle.

Ben and Jerry’s New Flavors- Check out these new flavors!: Truffle Kerfuffle, and Urban Bourbon came in last week. Chocolate Cherry Garcia is the limited time flavor of the quarter.
