Classic Sugar Cookies

  • 3 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, slightly firm
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Preheat your oven to 350°F

Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.  Set aside.  In the bowl of a large mixer fitted with a paddle attachment mix the butter and sugar on low until combined.  Add the egg and vanilla and beat to combine.  Add the dry ingredients and mix.  Knead the dough on the counter if needed to make it smooth and even.  Form the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate (at least 30 min).
To Roll your cookies, lightly flour your work surface and gently roll the dough until it is about 1/8” thick.  Cut with cutter and place your cookies on a lined baking sheet.  Bake for 12-14 min, cool and frost as you like
