Nutmeg Noels

  • 2 Tbsp Turbinado sugar or colored decorating sugar
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups all -purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

It is very important that your butter is soft before you begin. Preheat oven to 400. In a small bowl combine turbinado or colored sugar and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg; set aside. In the bowl of an electric stand mixture combine flour, sugar, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and 1/4 tsp of nutmeg. Add butter, egg and vanilla. Beat at low speed for about 3 minutes. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls into 1 inch balls. Roll each ball in the nutmeg-sugar mixture. Place cookies onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake 10-12 minutes. Cool on wire racks. Makes about 40 cookies. Store in airtight container at room temperature up to 3 weeks or wrap and freeze up to 3 months.
