Tonic Herbalism: Beckoning Balance – a free talk with author & herbalist Guido Masé

Join us in the Healthy Living Learning Center on Monday, September 23rd from 6:00-7:00 pm for Beckoning Balance, with Guido Masé.

Masé; author of The Wild Medicine Solution: Healing With Aromatic, Bitter, and Tonic Plants and co-director of the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism; will be discussing how to simplify the complex art and science of herbal medicine by exploring three basic classes of medicinal plants – many of which are probably poking around in your pantry, fridge, or garden. He’ll share the reasons why they are crucial, especially in today’s challenging world, along with simple ways to bring them into your life. Discover how simple it can be to perform “herbal alchemy” at home!

Guido Masé will explain in detail the beneficial properties of herbal bitters which, “wake up our digestive tracts (starting on the tongue), promote healthy secretion for a more complete break-down of our foods, and thereby help neutralize potential allergens. ..bringing relief from gas and bloating, occasional belly cramps and heartburn, and just all-around discomfort” (“Allergies & Digestion”).

He’ll also discuss the class of plants called the nervines, which, “…can help support a balanced state of internal tension, nourish the mind and spirit, and thereby bring joy to frazzled days and restorative sleep to restless nights…Just like a retreat into the garden itself, these fragrant herbs are a time-honored and effective way to gently rebalance internal tension without being habit forming, intoxicating, or sedating” ( “Aromatic Herbs: Uplift the Spirit and Gladden the Heart”).

Last, but not least, Masé will cover tonics, which nourish & balance, and by incorporating them into, “…our lives, we too can thrive when the pressure’s put on: from the athlete at the peak of their game, to the creative juggling of multiple projects- all of us living full, long summer days and enjoying warm, blissful nights. These plants give us true, deep strength” (The Wild Medicine Solution).

There will be a book signing following the talk, and local legends Urban Moonshine will be on hand to greet attendees with samples of their wonderful herbal bitters & tonics. The class is free, but pre-registration is required. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to foster your well being and learn from one of Vermont’s most renowned herbal educators!
