We’re Going Solar!
Healthy Living Solar Farm
We’re excited to announce the latest energy update for our Vermont store: we’re going solar!
With our New York store already 100% wind, we continue our mission to support a healthier planet. Our new solar farm is currently under construction and is expected to go live in the fall of 2019. Keeping it local, the photovoltaic solar system is being built by Green Lantern Solar, a Waterbury company, and the state’s leading provider of solar solutions. When operational, the HL farm, along with an off-taker agreement already in place, will provide about half the energy needed in the Vermont store.
Here comes the sun!
Photovoltaic (PV) systems, also called solar power systems, store and convert sunlight directly into electricity. This clean, renewable energy system operates silently, and delivers no environmental emissions. Unlike coal, oil, and natural gas, PV systems produce electricity without emitting carbon pollution. Truly sustainable energy!
How does it work?
This is a standard ‘net metered’ or ‘net energy metering’ solar project. Operating as a solar incentive, this allows us to store energy in the electric grid when our solar panels are producing excess power. In exchange, we can pull energy from the grid when our system is under-producing, like during the night. Panels are built and installed, hooked into the grid, and all the power generated is credited to our power bill.
Living our commitment.
For over 30 years, Healthy Living has been committed to a healthier planet. We are thrilled to not only advance our mission, but to push the envelope, as we strive to positively impact our communities and environment. Our new solar farm is a huge step toward fulfilling our dream of using renewable energy over non-renewables, helping to create a better world for all.
