What’s On My Plate?
When I look into our glorious bakeshop case I see an array of especially beautiful things. You should know that every one of these tasty marvels has been baked from scratch with love by the staff I love!
Of course, I happily devour the cakes, pies, cupcakes, muffins, pastries, quick breads, etc. etc. ETC!!! But I also love the bakers who make it all happen. They arrive before any of us are awake to measure, mix, bake, and package the fab assortment you’ll find seven days a week at all our stores.
Hilary, who’s been baking here at our South Burlington store for almost 16 years, will tell you she’s baked almost 54,000 pies over the years! The first year she baked here, she made 40 pies. Two years later she did over 800. The rest is history! I watch her in amazement as she cranks out absolutely perfect pie shell after pie shell. The pies, pastries, or cakes you bring home have been her focus from start to finish. Bekkah at Williston and Beth at the Saratoga store are equally talented and creative!
When you, our guests, come in with your fun (and wild!) ideas on how to style your cakes, Hilary always accepts the challenge. What started as a few special orders has blossomed into a full custom cakes program! Here’s a note of gratitude we recently received:

HILARY: People ask why I bake. I do love the challenge of coming up with a new recipe or frosting an amazing cake. But the real reason is that I love making people happy and a perfectly baked cake does just that!
I want to know every guest’s favorite treat and make sure they get it. I’m a food stalker! Birthday cakes rock my world! It is just so much fun to do cakes for kids each year as they grow and change themes for the cakes.
For Valentine’s Day it’s all about the flourless chocolate hearts. And I Iove doing our famous cookies with messages of love.
BACK TO KATY:
Hilary is what I’d call “hospitality central.” She’s made countless little kids, big kids, and adult kids happy over the years. Love it! She’s also shown our other talented bakers how it’s done … how to make you, our guests, deliciously happy.
