Wine of the Week – Bedrock Sonoma Valley Monte Rosso Vineyard Zinfandel 2010
One of the brightest rising stars in the wine world is Morgan Twain-Peterson, son of Joel Peterson. Joel Peterson is the highly acclaimed winemaker of Ravenswood Zinfandels.
He taught his son how to taste wine at a very young age, at the ripe old age of 5 made his first Pinot Noir, Morgan was the youngest Master of Wine at the age of 22. (at that point he could legally drink for less than a year!)
Morgan has been turning heads with his Bedrock and Shebang line of wines, garnering huge accolades from Robert Parker, Wine Spectator and others. Because of the connections his father made decades ago, Morgan has access to some of the most wonderful sources of fruit in California. The Monte Rosso Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyard in California with some vines dating back to the 1880’s. Joel Peterson made some of his best wines off this vineyard, yet lost contracts to the fruit when Gallo bought the vineyard some years ago. Now his son has picked up where his father left off and according to some has already eclipsed his father with his winemaking prowess.
This is a VERY limited wine as only 300 cases were made and only several were allocated to Vermont. At $40 this is not an inexpensive wine, but a rare opportunity to try one of the most sought after wines from one of the best young winemakers in the country.
With a monster rating of 94 from Wine Spectator this has a great shot at being named to the Top 100 released next week and at that point will evaporate quickly.
