Wine of the Week – Domaine la Garrigue Vacqueyras 2009

From the Rhone region of France, near the prestigious town of Chateaunuef du Pape, sits Domaine la Garrigue. Producers of Cotes du Rhone, Gigondas and Vacqueyras, they take their name from the garrigue or rosemary, sage, lavender and thyme that grows wild in the hills and valleys of the Rhone.

A blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault aged entirely in cement, this boasts a ruby/plum color, soaring aromatics of lavender, rosemary and thyme along with dark fruits, licorice and spice. Rich and full bodied, flavors of black berry, plum, and cherry dominate with hints of smoke, earth and game flow through to an impressively long finish.

Pairs perfectly with herb roasted lamb, braised venison shanks or cassoulet.
