Wine of the Week – Maipe Reserve Malbec 2009

The vineyards of Maipe lie in the foothills of the Andes Mountains at an elevation of 3000 feet above sea level. The Lujan du Cuyo district of Mendoza is considered one of the most prestigious growing regions in Argentina. The vineyards there have wonderful sun exposure during the day that allows for full ripening, yet at night the temperature drops considerably maintaining acidity levels.

This is a ripe fleshy style malbec that shows aromas of blackberry, plum, spice and violet. Black fruits, chocolate, espresso and hints of vanilla follow on the palate leading to a long lingering finish. Remarkably smooth, rich and soft this drinks well now and will hold for the next several years.

Try this with grilled beef, venison or simply pizza or pasta.
