Wine of the Week – Tenuta Terre Nere Etna Rosso 2010

Marc de Grazia sources some of the most interesting wines of Italy for Michael Skurnik imports. He is known to have one of the best palates in the entire world, so when he put his own money into buying this property you know that he had one thing in mind – turning out world class wines. Grown on the south facing slopes of Mount Etna at elevations of 600 to 900 meters above sea level in volcanic ash, black pumice and volcanic rock, this wine picks up nuances of the soil in which it’s grown.

Akin to a high quality Pinot Noir or Barolo this wine is not about brute strength, but elegance and subtlety. Light garnet in color, a beautiful perfume of red raspberry, strawberry and sour cherry lead to a lovely medium bodied mouth feel with fine grained tannins and a finish that goes on and on. A perfect pairing with roasted duck or pasta with bolognese. We look forward to the release of this wine every year, and 2010 may be the best example of this wine to date.  It sells out quickly every year so secure a bottle or two before it disappears. A blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Certified Organic.
