Nina’s Tips & Techniques: Plant-Based Shortcuts

I am worried that going to a 100% plant-based diet will result in me spending all my time cooking. Are there shortcuts available to help me with this?

Whoa – soooo many shortcuts!! Plant-based foods are all the rage right now and there are a ton of convenience items on the market that are REALLY tasty! The refrigerated and frozen sections are bursting with pre-made plant-based products that will help make your life easier and save you time in the kitchen. I like to take a convenience item and make it my own by making creative sauces or making a side salad to accompany a premade main dish. Along with the vast options for premade convenience items in this category, meal planning will help you tremendously. Any time I have made a diet or lifestyle change I’ve found that taking an hour each week to plan meals and prep ingredients sets me up for success and saves a TON of time mid-week when things get hectic.

What are your favorite plant-based shortcut products?

Well I’m a big plant-based burger fan – I always have been! But now the selection is amazing. I personally enjoy the burgers that taste like veggies over the ones that are supposed to taste like meat, but to each her own! There’s nothing better than a double stack veggie burger with sliced avocado, tomato, arugula, and/or sprouts. I also love plant-based sausages on the grill with lots of grilled veggies, bread, and garlicy olive oil poured over the top. And of course, many of the desserts are so yummy…but who doesn’t like dessert of any kind!
