Spiced Apple Compote
- 2 crisp apples
- 1 TB unsalted butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1/4 tsp cloves
- 1-2 TB sugar, depending on sweetness of apples
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
If you’re looking for something extra-special to put on top of vanilla or pumpkin ice cream, pancakes, angel food cake, etc., this flavorful and quick sauce is something you gotta try!
Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat, and peel, core and roughly chop the apples. Add the apples to the melted butter along with the spices, sugar, and vanilla. Stir together and cover with a lid. Gently cook the apples for around 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The butter should start to brown and the apples should be soft but still retain their shape.
