Perfectly Crisp Apple Crisp
For the Filling
- 7 tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/4 cup ginger preserves
- 2 Tbsp. hot water
- Zest and Juice of 1/2 lemon
For the Topping
- 1 stick unsalted butter; cubed
- 1 cup oats
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- Pinch of salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place apples in a mixing bowl and toss with remaining filling ingredients. Pour evenly into a baking pan. In a separate bowl, mix together topping ingredients with your fingers, until the butter is evenly crumbled in, pea sized and sandy. Spread the crumbly oat mixture over the apples in the pan, press down a bit and bake for 35-45 minutes until the apples are soft and the topping is crisp and golden. Allow to cool to room temperature before serving.
