Sesame Chicken

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces (2 bone-in breasts, 2 wings, 2 drums, 2 thighs)
  • ¼ cup mirin
  • ¼ cup tamari
  • ¼ cup fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • ¼ cup sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon rice syrup
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup scallions
  • 2 tablespoons white sesame seeds
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the marinade ingredients:  mirin, tamari, ginger, sesame oil, black sesame seeds, rice syrup, black pepper and water together until they are combined.
  2. Cover the chicken with the marinade and let it sit overnight.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  
  4. Place the chicken and all of the marinade into a small roasting pan.  Place the chicken into the preheated oven.
  5. Cook until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees, about 45 minutes.
  6. Garnish with scallions and white sesame seeds before serving.
